Ten Things Every Stagehand Should Know About Computer Networking

I just read Richard's article on the basics of computer networking, and it is a great overview of network terms and what they mean--I'm going to print it out and post it in the shop so all of our guys on the floor can read it.  I highly recommend that if you aren't familiar with gigabit switches and MAC addresses, you take 5 minutes and go through this article.

We're starting to see fixtures that take direct ethernet cable (finally) and anyone dealing with installations knows that DMX is soon to go the way of the Dodo.  Make sure you're ready when the theatre landscape changes.  View full text on page 48 (PDF/Online p. 51) of this month's edition of PSLN

Absolutely a great article. Whenever I set up gigs on the fast and furious, I can't tell you how many times I get the "brook trout" stare when I say "use a CAT5 jumper and address that box to XXX.XXX.XX.XX,  would you mind pinging it once you're done, just to be sure?"......not that I care one way or the other, but wonder if Richard will catch flack for saying "stagehand"....I guess there isn't one handle that'll catch all..  :0  Love that PLSN is in "digital mag" form now!
