Our sister site, TheatreFace.com, will be hosting a live chat at 3:30 p.m. EDT/12:30 p.m. PDT with Keny Whitright, president of Wybron Inc. Keny and Wybron invented the color changing scroller in 1980, and they haven't stopped innovating since. Today they manufacture color scrollers, dichroic color-changing lights and LED fixtures. We'll be talking about the advantages of each, how each has different effects on your lighting designs, and anything else you want!
So read up on Keny,…
In the June 2011 issue of PLSN, which should be hitting your mail boxes shortly, I wrote about technology and how it is making us lazy. The goal of my Editor's note is to inspire and bring concerns to light. Yes, I love using lighting puns. I am re-printing it here to invoke a response and get the conversation started. Am I wrong, or do you see it in a different light, (another bad pun)? I want to hear what you think.
I’m addicted to technology. I love…

The May issue of PLSN is beginning to hit people's mailbox. I am very proud of the work that the staff of writers and everyone back at the office have done. We work hard to bring the latest information and news from around the industry to you in the pages of PLSN and online at PLSN.com.
One section of the magazine I am especially proud of is the Editor's Note. I take great pride in writing these each month. It may seem like a soap box, but in reality, it is for…Continue

Last week we did a HUGE update to the back end of PLSN.com. The front side of the website didn't see much of a change other then a few layout changes. One thing that did change that will effect readers are the RSS links. RSS or Really Simple Syndication is a way to read a website with out all the fluff and layout of the site. If you just want to read the content and see the images attached to a piece, RSS is the way to go. I love RSS feeds, I have subscribed to over 600 different feeds…Continue

Last night we did some schedule maintenance on plsn.com. We apologize if you get your news fix late night. The website is back up and running strong ready to fill your mind with industry news and new products. If you look at the site, nothing has really changed, just a couple updates on the front side and couple of new looks. Don't let that fool you, PLSN.com is got more get up and juice underneath.
One of the major upgrades was search engine friendly URLs. If you ever tried to…Continue

Every two weeks we will be asking for you to submit your design work for entry into the contest. After the two weeks are up, we'll choose the best submitted…Continue
I may live in DC, but unlike the rest of population of this town, I don't like talking politics. It's just not fun and can turn your friends into enemies really quick. So setting aside politics today, have you heard that the White House released copies of President Obama's original long-form birth certificate?
I don't want to get into the middle of why he is doing this or if he should or shouldn't. It's not my cup of tea. What I did want to point out is a hash tag running on twitter…Continue

This was the longest and hardest weekend lately for me. I had to sort through all of the submissions for being a blogger here on PLS. I am happy to announce that we have four new bloggers here on PLS! It was a tough choice for each section with multiple entries for each. I want to thank everyone that submitted their name. It was not an easy choice to just four people. If you did not make the "cut", I am sorry. BUT, there will be multiple opportunity in the future for blogging, writing…Continue

HAPPY EARTH DAY!
This one snuck up on me too, but yes, today, April 22nd, is Earth Day. Great... But was does that mean? Does everyone in the world celebrate Earth's Birthday today? If that is the case, I want to be there when Mother Earth blows out her birthday cake candles, that's a lot of candles!
Seriously though, what is Earth Day? Wikipedia defines it as such:
Earth Day is a day that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's…

When you log into PLS, at the very bottom of the home screen, you might notice we have an online chat feature. On all the other pages of PLS, the chat window goes down to the very bottom of your browser window, very similar to how Facebook.
I want to throw an idea out to the community about having a scheduled online chat. We would pick a date and time to meet on the site and chat about something... in real time. Rather then everyone just meeting at a certain time online and wait…Continue
ProLight + Sound starts a bit later this week. While I would love to make it to Germany this week for the show, I have prior obligations that I need to attend to first. In my place, Mr. Paul Watson will be covering the show for us. He will be on the ground all four days looking for the latest products, services.
From time to time, Paul will be checking in here on PLS to see if people have questions, places to stop and information to share about the show. Here is your chance, get…Continue

I don't know about you, but DC doesn't seem to be getting any warmer out there. I love the movie Ground Hogs Day, but I think Phil is kidding himself this year. I think he turned a blind eye to his shadow this year to make everyone like him.
Don't lie to me Phil... When is spring really coming?
ProLightingSpace is getting bigger and expending all over the place. It's time to bring in the big guns. We are looking for five industry professionals to blog on PLS and get paid for doing so!

How much do you love HootSuite? I basically live within HootSuite on my Macs, iPhone and iPad. It is how I stay organized with all of my social networking. I just activated a new extension here on PLS that allows members to connect PLS into HootSuite!
The new extension allows us to view the activity on PLS right in HoosSuite. It also allows us to update not only all your other social networks, but PLS as well right in…Continue

I put out a request to the community asking what they want to see added, changed, updated on ProLightingSpace. I have heard some good responses so far. I am still looking for more input on how we can make PLS more user friendly and a strong community. If you have any suggestions, please add them here.
One thing that was requested was social networking integration. We heard…Continue
On Friday, March 11th, a huge 8.9 earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit just off the northeastern shore of Japan, causing widespread destruction. Our sister site, ProAudioSpace.com, (PAS) has been tracking tours and bands that were in Japan when the Earthquake hit.
Sandy Espinoza, a member of PAS spent late nights getting in touch and tracking bands across Japan and Asia to make sure they are safe. Below is a listing of the tours and bands in that region and what we know. …Continue
