How do I do that?

                                                                How do I do that?

Our technical learning curves are different. Some of us are lucky enough to learn, in order, lighting consoles inside and out, and then move on to the next one and repeat. Most of us have to grab as much time as we can on said console so we can at least troubleshoot out in the field and get a show up in running in one day. Then there is a huge group of us that get a trained rush job on…

                                        Continuing Education on a budget

I have less than a year until my family and I relocate to California from Central Florida. There is so much planning and saving money to transport 3 people across the US,  that I understand why people don't do this extreme move. Not to give too many personal reasons, but I have basically been stuck here until my oldest daughter graduates high school. Now that I have a timetable ( June 2014 )…

( Wasn't Prince talking about partying around that time as well? ) The Disco Biscuits are from Philadelphia, Penn and thought it would be a great idea to sit around with fellow musicians to explore new sounds ( technology was…

Electric Forrest

Rothbury, Michigan was a buzz with art installations, tons of LED up-lit trees, lasers, large stages with scenic pieces, and over 25,000 music lovers for the 3nd annual Electric Forrest. The 'Rothbury Music Festival" started in 2008, but by 2011 the festival had a new name, new partner ( Insomniac Productions ) and more electronic dance music acts added to their roster. This festival takes over the sprawling Double JJ Ranch for 4…

There is always a distinction between the biggest, baddest, most intense event a lighting technician can appreciate. You can be a music LD, a theatre LD, or a straight convention circuit LD. Maybe you are just a general lighting guy/girl who strives to be a professional lighting designer once you get that much needed experience. Some of us work so much, we don't take the time to…
