Where Entertainment Production and Design People Meet!

Recently I've "changed courses mid stream." Going from production company partner/ownership, in a prestigious location, to pursuing my dream of being a touring concert lighting designer.

Last spring I attended the Las Vegas ETCP entertainment electrician course, which was an eye opening class and well worth the cost. I'm wondering what the next logical step would be, getting the ETCP certification or getting more training on new consoles and networks.

What are the touring companies looking for?

"getting the ETCP certification or getting more training on new consoles and networks."
Easy. ETCP doesn't mean squat if you want to be a lighting DESIGNER. I can't imagine Steve Cohen/Willie Williams/Roy Bennett/Peter Morse/etc. getting or ever wanting an ETCP-Certification; or operating consoles for that matter.

You want to be "a touring concert lighting designer"? Simply find an artist who will hire you, then you'll be one. :-)

And read James L. Moody's book, The Business of Theatrical Design.
